In this poem,"To Her Father with Some Verses", Puritanism is greatly depicted by Anne Bradstreet. Through her tone in the poem to her unique background to her feminist message, she dedicated this poem to her one and only father.
When you first read this poem, you can tell the poet's tone is praise through self-deprecation as she writes "My stock's so small I know not how to pay". On the other hand, she promises that she will make every effort to repay her father for all he has given her. This can be shown in the line of "Such is my debt I may not say forgive, But as I can, I'll pay it while I live;"She longs to express her admiration for him, but feels as though her appreciation is not enough.
We have to understand that the poet, Anne Bradstreet was a devout Puritan. Coming from an elite family, her father had a great library in which got her hooked into classical and modern literature from a young age. Her intelligent father served several terms as a governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. At the age of sixteen, she married Simon Bradstreet who was a graduate from Cambridge University and moved to the New World along with her family. There, she was faced with the harsh reality, trying to survive in the cultural biased society against women.
As a Puritan woman who understands the superior role of men, her message was probably to raise different voices in whether women can also be an intellectual individual. Writing in Puritanism was used to explore their inner and outer lives and she thought nothing wrong with that and so should everyone else. When she published her poems, she was harshly criticized whether that was something a woman should do since they believed that women were to stay at home and to fulfill her husband's needs and desires. Her brother-in-law felt like he needed to stress how Anne was a strong virtuous women, staying up late and giving up her sleep to have her leisure time. Here, she was rebelling against the idea of typical Puritan women.
Anne Bradstreet shows the characteristics of a Puritan women while going against the society's idea of feminism. Through her poem, "To Her Father with Some Verses", she clearly shows how she cannot repay his father for the care that he gave her. The poem can be understood more by her tone in the poem, her history and her determined thoughts. In the end, we are all indebted by our parents and what our parents have done for us cannot be repaid fully, but the important thing is to try.

In the poem,"To Her Father with Some Verses", Puritanism is profoundly depicted by Anne Bradstreet. Through her tone in the poem to her unique background to her feminist message, she dedicated this poem to her one and only father.
As she writes “My Stock’s so small I know not how to pay”, you can tell that the poet’s tone is markedly praise through self deprecation. On the other hand, she promises that she will make every effort to repay her father for all he has done and given her. This can be shown in the line of "Such is my debt I may not say forgive, But as I can, I'll pay it while I live;" She longs to express her admiration for him, but feels as though her appreciation is not enough.

Writing in Puritanism was used to explore their inner and outer lives and she thought nothing wrong with that and so should everyone else. When she published her poems, she was harshly criticized. As a woman, she was believed to stay at home and fulfil her husband’s needs and desires, instead of writing poems.
Through her poem, she evidently shows how she cannot repay his father for the care that he gave her. The poem can be understood more by her tone in the poem, her history and her determined thoughts. There is nothing perfect on this planet. From the fine arts in the museums, to the computers we have. Everything can be something even more better, including our work. Lise’s analysis essay is an exemplary work. Although it was really good and understandable, just like other things can change, her essay was able to become even better with some changes.
One of the greatest reason for the excellence of Lise’s essay was that she was able to use specific evidence to show Anne Bradstreet’s true, inner feelings towards her father. With quotes that fit in well with the theme, she stated Anne’s feelings, but also included her opinion and views of the author. By including background information about the author, she makes it possible for the reader to connect with the author, and better understand Anne Bradstreet and why she wrote this poem. She includes her analysis of what the message was in this poem, the message on how raise different voices in whether women can also be an intellectual individual. Also, with specific word choices and sentence structures, her points are straight-forward and powerful.
Although Lise had great sentence structures, some changes were made to the sentence style, and lengths. Aside from changing some word choices and grammar, changes were made to the sentence style. I changed the order of the wording in a single sentence so that it is more simple and straightforward. By changing the style, I also made some sentences short. Lise included long sentences and not so many short ones. By having a variety of sentence lengths, it sounds more interesting and is not dull. Having same sentence lengths the whole time, it becomes boring to read and does not influence the author as much. Also, some changes were made to her conclusion as it was weak.
What I learned from revising Lise’s analysis essay is that a connection is important in writing an essay. With a connection to the audience, the passage is more clear, and more understandable. Giving us background information, we have a sense of who the author is and more about them. As stated in the first paragraph, nothing is perfect. Even though I first didn’t find anything to change, I realized there is something you can do to everything.
Lise’s essay was outstanding content wise but there were some limits to the message. Her sentence structures and vocabulary were great and revising it taught me a lot. Her perspectives were interesting and I was able to connect my ideas with hers. Revision makes it perfect.
